Cat Ryan’s “Like This”: An Anthem for Embracing Change

The second track from Cat Ryan’s Newcastle upon Tyne band Like This is laden with jangle pop anthems and energised guitar power. The first song for the group and the band’s frontwoman Mary-Anne had written back in 2017 is as relevant as ever in the modern-day music scene. Based on the qualitative data the song starts with reflection guitar brightness and increase in pattern up to some point of bumping to a new pattern. The song’s lyrics present the listener with mindful messages regarding the nature of growning feelings and affections, which are familiar to everyone. In the traditional sense of pop punk the guitars are infectious, leading the song to progress to a more upbeat portion that wholly embodies the “end of the tunnel” feel of so many songs in the genre. It shows how Cat Ryan has always been able to combine intelligence in lyrics with enjoyable melodies and is evidence of why “Like This” stands out in their increasing catalog.
